The Workshop for Art Research & Practice (W.A.R.P.)

University of Florida, College of Fine Arts

Co-Director

1993-1997

A radical solution for the teaching art and design foundations within a state university art department.

Conceived by Professor Wallace Wilson and Chair John Catterall, W.A.R.P. was the foundation of the university’s BFA programs. I co-directed this experimental, art-school-style course with my esteemed colleague Kate Catterall.

W.A.R.P. is still going strong. The interdisciplinary, team-taught introductory class pairs studio experiences in a wide variety of media with introduction to concepts, theories, and practices in contemporary art. Students dive deep into creative processes, artistic integrity, and the nature of artistic meaning. A defining feature of the program was a culminating public art project in which students worked in teams to install their full-scale works across the university campus.
